Pike Run Wildlife Area East - Muscatine County Conservation Board

Writer: Ben SmasherBen Smasher

This park is huge (182 acres), so I'm breaking it off into separate parking lots / entry points. This Easternmost parking lot grants you instant access to the flood berm that runs through most of the park which can be an easy way to get far into any part of the park as it is mowed periodically on top.0 On the protected side (North / west) there is gorgeous prairie as far as you can see, but on the other side there are several ponds, standing cottonwood, oak, maple & sycamore blanketed by soft grass and some sandy soil with the occasional easy to cross creek running through it. The vantage point of the berm can give you a great view of the wildlife and also makes it really easy to navigate your hike. The Cedar River level can vary greatly so I'm sure during flood season, most of this place is under water, but so far I haven't seen it so.
